The intervention in the typically baroque chapel of the Casa do Menino de Deus in Barcelos was completed at the end of 2023.
The overall work focused on the altarpiece structures, pelmets, panelling, stucco, lambris and skirting boards. Specifically, the altarpieces and pelmets were chemically cleaned and the detached polychromes stabilised.
The stucco, lambris and skirting boards were treated at the support level (consolidation and filling) and the surface had to be cleaned and gaps filled.
The Casa do Menino de Deus, whose history stems from an image of the Child Jesus the King, is a secular institution in Barcelos that dates back to the 18th century. It currently operates as a Private Institution of Social Solidarity, with a number of different services.
