Signinum, Gestão do Património Cultural has started a rehabilitation project, which involves demolishing the interior and retaining the façade, at the house where painter Maria de Lourdes de Mello e Castro was born, on Rua Alexandre Herculano in Tomar.
In the first stage, teams are working on the interior demolition. They will then proceed with the containment of the metal structure.
Maria de Lourdes de Mello e Castro's artistic work is part of the aesthetic current of portuguese naturalism. The artist died in 1996. She was probably the last disciple of the painter José Malhoa.
The house where the artist was born was given to Tomar City Council to create the House-Museum in honour of her life and work.
