The fountain at Largo do Apoio in Barcelos has been given its original shape by Signinum.

"The restoration involved recovering the fractured elements of the pinnacle and its base and returning them to their original location. The municipality's technicians who accompanied the operation opted not to install the sphere that topped the whole, as it was an element introduced in the second half of the 20th century, so the Fountain now has its original shape," explained the City Council of Barcelos.

The fountain in Largo do Apoio was built in the 17th century by the master João Lopes de Amorim. It was the initiative of Câmara Municipal de BarcelosFor centuries, it served as a domestic water supply for the locals.

The Square, where the daily market was held, is one of the centrepieces of the memory of the medieval urban centre of Barcelos.
