The renovation work on the Church of the Misericórdia in Melgaço, carried out by Signinum, foram inauguradas este domingo, 1 de março.
“Thank you for the professionalism and dedication with which you have taken on this project,” said the trustee of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Melgaço, Jorge Ribeiro, at the ceremony presided over by the Bishop of Viana do Castelo, D. João Lavrador. The event was also attended by Ângela Guerra, administrator of Santa Casa; Inêz Dentinho, coordinator of the Queen D. Leonor Fund—which provided financial support for the project - and José Albano Domingues, mayor of Melgaço, among other institutional representatives.
The restoration project encompassed the entire building and its artistic elements, from the roof to the altarpieces, including the upper choir, which was in danger of collapsing. Thanks to the dedication of Signinum’s professionals across various fields—from carpentry to conservation and restoration—it was possible to restore this historic and religious heritage site, dating back to the 12th century, to its former glory.
As D. João Lavrador said at the inauguration: “When you undertake a restoration, you’re always looking toward the future.”
